SOME OF OUR TECHNIQUES

THE ARTHROSTIM® INSTRUMENT

We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our judgment and years of experience. The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Diversified

After identifying which spinal bones have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is administered to free up “stuck” joints... read more»

Thompson

Proprioceptive Taping Technique

This interesting procedure gives almost immediate relief for those suffering from low back pain, sciatica and even post-operative knee surgery.  Proprioception is the part of your Nervous System that 1) allows us to balance, 2) effects our organs, keeping them healthy and well-functioning and 3) also works directly opposite the "Mechanorecpetors," or Pain Fibers of your nervous system, quickly reducing pain in a natural way.  (The technique is is covered by most insurances.)

Arthrostim

The Arthrostim is a precision hand-held mechanical tool that allows the doctor to deliver a specific and gentle thrust to the subluxated joint. It allows Dr. Rush to be extremely accurate and exact. Many people like it because it easily adjusts the spine without any “twisting” motions involved. Others like it just because it so easily and so well. It is especially wonderful for children, people with osteoporosis, our older patients and also for wrists, the TMJ and other areas that require gentle specificity. It’s also terrific for Cranial work. Read more»

We adjust super heroes, too!Myofacial, Deep Tissue Work

Myofascial, Deep Tissue and Massage work: [all is one, is fine]: When bones become subluxated it is because muscles are in spasm holding the bones out of place. Muscles also become injured in other ways. We feel that in order to effectively adjust spinal bones, in many cases pairing the adjustment with muscle work helps the body heal faster and stay well longer. And, it just plain feels good! Many chronic pain syndromes are caused by a severely injured area of a muscle referred to as a trigger point. Some problems that statistically become manageable or even resolve with trigger point work are headaches and migraines, chronic back injuries, “pseudo sciatica,” tinnitus, thoracic outlet syndrome and other debilitating pain for which traditional treatments offer little or no hope. Dr. Rush performs this work, and also has a skilled staff of trained muscle workers to specifically address these painful conditions and get them under control.

Trigger Point Work ("massage")

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" or “healing touch” and is based on the idea that a "life force energy" flows through us, much like in acupuncture. If one's "life force energy" is low or “blocked,” then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of healing. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Ethereal” or “the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." A treatment usually feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results. Dr. Rush was a recipient of Reiki before taking three different seminars and earning his Third Degree Reiki license. Reiki was also featured in a recent article in the Philadelphia “Inquirer” because it is now used in several Philadelphia hospitals. Dr. Rush applies Reiki without actually touching you, so you are better able to feel the incredible energy, rather than the sensation of his hands. It must be experienced to be believed.

Pearce and Toggle-Release Protocol

Pearce and Toggle-Release adjustments are techniques that utilize a gentle “dropping” of a portion of the table (about 1-2”) to help a “stuck bone” move gently into place.

Pregnancy Protocols For Adjusting and Massage

Dr. Rush and his muscle therapy staff are specially trained to work with pregnant women to ease the possible discomforts of pregnancy.

Extremity Adjustments Cranial and TMJ Work

This is a specialized technique that works with the slight movements of the cranial “sutures” or the joints between the bones of the skull. It also includes intra-oral work (in the mouth) so it can be extremely effective for TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint) Syndrome which causes jaw pain and locking, tinnitus (ringing in ears) and other head and neck problems.

Dr. Rush Asks some important questions of interest to Philadelphia residents - Chiropractor Philadelphia Dr. Rush Asks...

Why does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works because your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body, controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. A chiropractor locates and reduces areas of nervous system compromise (usually along the spine) so your capacity to heal is restored. Chiropractic works by helping your body work as it was designed.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Philadelphia chiropractic practice.
